Hafley Park is owned by the city of Perry and was once a recycling center. In 2014, it was turned over to the Houston County Master gardeners to use as a demonstration/teaching /inspiration garden. There is educational signage in each of its ever expanding display of gardens. We have vegetable gardens (6 raised beds), shade plants, native plants, a pollinator meadow, a pass-along garden, an herb garden, an edible landscape, a butterfly garden, and a rock garden. There is a turf area with 4 types of sod laid for turf classes taught in spring and fall this year. We are developing a pollinator plant area with an orchard, showing plants that do well in central Georgia without spraying anything. The park is maintained by a crew (3-4) of volunteers that comes two days a week for about 1.5 hours. There is something for young and old to see and get inspiration from. Whether taking a homeowner class or stopping by to have a lunch break, there is always something in bloom.
