Master Gardener Extension Volunteers
WHO WE ARE
Master Gardener Members of MGCG promote horticulture and environmental awareness through education and a wide variety of sponsored activities, scholarships, and educational grants.
Master Gardener Extension Volunteers should coordinate all volunteer opportunities with their local County Extension Agent, and be sure to log volunteer hours.
WHAT WE DO
Master Gardener Extension Volunteers offer their expertise and services, under the direction of their County Extension Agent, to help others through horticultural projects that benefit the community. In addition to visiting homeowners and assisting them with their questions or concerns, Master Gardener Extension Volunteers also volunteer their services to support several programs or gardens.
Master Gardener Extension Volunteers bring the latest horticultural information and practices from the world of research to their communities’ landscapes and gardens. Numerous opportunities are available to Master Gardener Extension Volunteers in Central Georgia. Through UGA’s Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteer program, members are provided access to ongoing advanced training in addition to the required initial education program.
HOW DO I BECOME A MASTER GARDENER?
Becoming a Master Gardener begins with the UGA Extension Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteer program. We encourage anyone interested in participating in the program to visit UGA’s program information page. In our region, classes begin in late February and run, once a week, until early May. Applications open at the beginning of November and close at the end of the month. Call the Extension Office in your county for an application; numbers available here.
